US ex-M3 and the IOB

Filed under: General — mjc @ 11:56 pm

crystal ball gazing

It’s a link to the google cache as the original is broken.
I found I had to kill the page mid-load as some of the links from the
cache copy are broken, but you can read the text.
What’s interesting about this? It’s the first attempt to analyse the
coincidence of the US M3-hiding with the IOB I’ve seen. The IOB is
almost invisible in the world media - try looking for it in google
news. Looks like it will hit the newsstands next week.
Here’s an alternate reading, that looks like it wasn’t translated
from French

seeing that the labtastic site automatically hotlinked ‘beenz.com’
from my previous mail, i clicked
it to see where it goes.
a number of interesting things.
i) it’s for sale - yours for a snip at $300,000 !
ii) the ‘popular’ categories include’ work from home’ and ‘christian
singles’
but i think the most interesting is:
iii) ‘Technique Espionage Par Micro’ which certainly sounds like fun!

The Best Ringtone Ever?

Filed under: General — richard @ 10:52 am

Following on from Neil’s post, and with no apologies whatsoever to
those who’ve already experienced it (or my modesty), I present to you
what I feel is nothing less than The Best Ringtone Ever, certainly
one of my better ideas, AND possibly the most irritating ring tone
ever (for non-geeks anyway). It’ll certainly get you noticed by all
the right (wrong?) people…
www.leyton.org/download/uber_ringtone.mp3
A prize exists for those not already in the know guessing the
technical detail of what it is. I’m talking names here, not generics.
Answers on an SMTP data stream to the usual address please.

my linux digital picture frame

Filed under: General — shardcore @ 10:22 am

finally got my digital picture frame working.
the laptop is an original 1999 beenz.com sony vaio, running at a
(then) blistering
speed of 233Mhz and sporting a colossal 32meg of ram. it has travelled
all across the world, and even ran the mapping software for our american
road-trip in 2001.
at some point the screen hinge broke and despite another glue-gun/
angle-bracket hack
it was never the same again.
however, i found a picture frame, for 12quid and took at it with a
pair of pliers
and gaffa tape. unfortunately by this point the bios battery was
shagged, and
it took a while before i found a place which would sell me 6 1.2v
nicad cells, which
i soldered together and lo, the mighty beast booted again.
it’s running damn-small linux and a wireless connection to a samba
share for
the actual photos.
it needs some tidying up at the back, but apart from that it’s
working like a dream :)

Various podcasts of independent music (via Adam):

Subscribe to the podcast(s), hear new music, buy it on iTunes if you
like it. Everybody’s happy.
Anybody else got anything similar? I’m getting bored of my music
collection, and need inspiration, but can’t face the pathetic
rambling of DJ’s with time to fill or adverts to play.
